EPS which is popularly sold with the brand name of thermocol or Styrofoam is one of the most widely used cushioning packaging materials. The other side of the story is that it is one of the least recycled plastics, reason being it’s extremely difficult and cost intensive to recycle. Most of the waste management companies and recyclers do not collect / deal in EPS. This results in most of EPS ending up in landfills.

Using BIG Purplematter Technologies is building a soil compostable alternative to thermocol packaging that can be used as protective packaging and is able to protect fragile product like electronics, electrical appliances and crockery. The material is made from agricultural wastes, natural fibers and binders.
