India is the second largest onion producing country i.e. 3 crore MT onions every year, where 70 % of the production is stored in the warehouses for a period of 6-8 months. Every year there is around 40-50% wastage in the warehouses due to various reasons such as the mix variety sown, cultural practices followed and micro-climate conditions in which the crop is grown and stored.
The infrastructure available today for onion storage is old, made using conventional methods. Most of the crop wastage happens in the storage period of the crop.
Godaam Innovations is trying to convert traditional onion warehouses into smart warehouses to reduce the crop wastage in storage period by implementing an IOT based monitoring solution that monitor, analyse and communicate in real time the health status of onion stock. This enables the decision maker to take informed decisions. To scientifically validate IOT Sensor based device, which can do Real-time climate monitoring and early identification of wastage based on the gases emitted by onions.
